Prestbury Fishing Club Minutes
May 7 Meeting

The Prestbury Fishing Club (PFC) is open to all Prestbury residents with a shared commitment to enhancing the quality of recreational fishing on our community lakes. If any Prestbury residents are interested in joining the PFC or would like more information about our planned programs and activities, contact:

* Steve Keierleber, President, at 466-9527 or
* Tom Dornback, Secretary/Treasurer, at 466-0602

Restocking Program
Steve Keierleber opened the meeting by explaining that fish have been ordered from the supplier, Mr. Tom Werenski, at Richmond Fisheries in Richmond, Illinois. No delivery dates have yet been given by the fish supplier. Steve reported that he ordered 180 lbs of bass at $1.75/lb. He also ordered 80 lbs of farm grown minnows at $5.00/lb. The total for this initial order was $1,795 using the Turtle Cove tax exempt number.

To date contributions for restocking have totaled $1,400. It was suggested that the Prestbury Board be requested to supply matching funds to the pledged $2,000 PFC fund.

Garage Sale
There was discussion about participating in the Prestbury Garage Sale to raise funds for purchasing additional fish for stocking. The Garage Sale is May 19th.
Steve Keierleber volunteered to produce a flyer that will be distributed by the members to as many Prestbury households as possible, calling for garage sale donations on behalf of the stocking program. Tom Dornback and Steve Keierleber volunteered to host the sale outside of 21 and 22 East Windsor Court in Turtle Cove. Tom and Steve however urgently asked for volunteers to participate in set-up and tear-down of the sale. Please notify Tom or Steve if you can help on Friday night or Saturday afternoon.

The handout that Steve Keierleber is preparing for the garage sale will also call for cash contributions from the community. Those checks should be made out to the Prestbury Fishing Club and delivered to Marv Doty at 16 Cedar Gate Circle. Marv Doty also volunteered to make several hundred copies of the Garage Sale handout.

Lake Status
Marv Doty reported that he had not yet received the report on the testing of the current quality of the lake water. He indicated that he expected the report in the next few days.

Marv Doty said he had received the application form to request the State of Illinois to electro shock the lake later this year.

Several members present reported that the odor of the lake is still a concern.

Fish Catches
Steve Keierleber and Tom Dornback reported that since the last meeting only bullheads and carp have been caught. To date more than 80 bullheads and about 10 carp have been removed from Lake Prestbury and sent downstream. One small bluegill was caught by Steve Keierleber. Steve gave serious thought to taking this bluegill to a taxidermist but instead decided to return it to the lake.

Aerators
The need for year-round, 24/7 aerators in Lake Prestbury was discussed. Matt Jablonski reported that there are 5 aerators currently running in Blackberry Lake.
Tom Dornback and Steve Keierleber checked the Lake Prestbury aerators and found that two were running as of 7 May. Marv Doty estimated that the electricity charge for each aerator would be in the neighborhood of about $170/month. Steve Keierleber has collected information on several year-round aerators. George Hauser will meet with the Prestbury board to have new aerators installed this year in Lake Prestbury.

Marv Doty also reported that an oxygen testing meter is being studied. Estimated cost is about $200.

The next meeting of the Prestbury Fishing Club will be on Monday, May 21 at 7:00pm at 21 East Windsor in Turtle Cove.
