Garage Sale

This years PFC garage sale was very successful. We operated two sites, at George Hauser and Marv Doty. The club would like to thank the Prestbury community for the items donated, the food, and the cash donations.

At the June 3 meeting we discussed several ideas on how to have an even more successful fish stocking sale again next year.

Fish restocking of Lake Prestbury and Blackberry Lake

There was considerable discussion about the timing and types of fish for the next restocking effort. Because a number of expert opinions are being sought at this time no specific plan was approved. However there was general agreement that their probably is value in adding shiner minnows to the lake asap to support the bass that were stocked this year and last. Steve Keierleber said he would check if minnows are available for purchase at this time.

It was reported that Marv Doty is waiting on a Kane County person to make a recommendation on where we should go from here in our restocking efforts. Steve Keierleber also volunteered to make some calls about restocking suggestions. Steve also volunteered to check with the county to find out if there will be a fall fish sale.

Tom Dornback had submitted a recommendation to the club that a large number of minnows be added asap as well as an equal quantity of small bass (as were added in the spring). He also recommended that we consider adding some hybrid crappies when they become available. A question was raised about adding a few northerns to the lake to possibly reduce the carp population. Marv Doty is being asked to check with the Kane County people on the advisability of such a plan. It was decided to hold off on implementing any stocking plan until Marv and Steve report back.

Lake shoreline clean up

A number of people have made a second effort to clean up the Lake Prestbury shoreline. It had earlier been cleaned on May 4. Thanks to the club members and non-members for this ongoing effort.

New members

There was some discussion of ideas to try to get others from the Prestbury community to join the Fishing Club. We may do a mailing to encourage possible new members to come to a future meeting.

Fishing Report

Steve Keierleber and Tom Dornback reported that they have already caught (and released) a large number of the new bass that were put into Lake Prestbury in late March. All appeared to be doing well and were very healthy. Several large bass were also caught (12” - 15”), as well as about five of the new catfish. The larger bass had some stress marks and were clearly from last years stocking program. All fish were caught using nightcrawlers and roostertails.. Most were caught very close to shore.

It is suggested that all bullheads and carp that are caught in Lake Prestbury be placed in the retention pond downstream from the lake.

The club would like to thank the following people who donated to the restocking effort of the Prestbury and Blackberry Lake since the last meeting.
