Prestbury Fishing Club Minutes

April 1 Meeting

A meeting of the Prestbury Fishing Club was held on 1 April 2002
In attendance were George Hauser, President, Marv Doty, Steve Keierleber
Marty Swanson, and Bob Bruss.

The following items were discussed at the meeting:

The club has purchased $1,063.75 worth of new fish that are to be placed in Lake Prestbury and Blackberry Lake on the morning of 6 April. The funds to purchase
these fish were primarily from:
Donations from Prestbury Fishing Club members including a new 2002
contribution of $200 by Marv Doty and his wife.
Money raised at the 2001 Prestbury Garage PFC sale held for this purpose.
Some donations from non-club members in the Prestbury community
(note: none of the funds were from the PCA treasury)

The new fish will consist of:
50 8” – 10” Channel Catfish
465 5” – 8” Largemouth Bass
250 1” – 2” Bluegills
20lbs Fathead Minnows

In addition to the above Bob Bruss has ordered 60 additional largemouth bass for Blackberry Lake. The Prestbury Fishing Club will add an additional 40
largemouth bass to this for Blackberry Lake.

All of the above fish will be coming from the Kane-DuPage Soil & Water Conservation District and be picked up at 7am on 6 April.

It should be noted that in addition to the above, more than 240 bass, crappies, and bluegills were placed in Prestbury Lake in 2001 after the 2000 – 2001 complete
fish kill.

There was also discussion about depositing 5 – 6 small brush piles in Lake Prestbury so that young fish will be able to hide from predators. This is being discussed
with Ed Powers from the PCA board by George Hauser. If approved, the community will be notified on the date of putting these brush piles into the lake. Also
maps will be available for fisherman. None of the brush piles will be less than 3 feet from the surface.

The club is planning a shoreline clean up of both lakes in late April or early May. We hope that others in the community will join the club in this effort.

If the Prestbury Garage sale is held in 2002 it was decided to have a Prestbury Fishing Club sale site to raise money for additional fish stocking. Donations of items
will be requested from the Prestbury community.

A question was raised as to whether or not PCA had spent the budgeted $5,000 for a lake study? If yes, what were the results of that study?

Tom Dornback agreed to research the cost of shocking devices used to determine fish populations.

There was considerable discussion on ways to remove carp and bullheads from the lakes. Everyone is encouraged not to return any carp or bullheads to Lake
Prestbury or Blackberry Lake.
